A movie starts with the vision of its director, and it’s impossible not to acknowledge the work put in by them to make the imagination a reality.
In these 100 years of the cinema industry being present all across the globe, we have been fortunate enough to be told stories that have deeply impacted us — have made us cry, laugh, think, imagine, dream and live.
And a lot of credits for this go to the master – the director of the film.
Although each director has left his/her own mark in his/her own unique way, there are some which have changed the cinema industry for the greatest good.
As movie buffs on both sides today, we thought let’s cherish these amazing directors with you all. Here are some of them!
Edgar Wright
An award-winning English Filmmaker who has his own unique language when it comes to translating his message to the audience and you bet, it’s a magical one that he truly owns. He started his career by writing short stories.
Born on 18th April 1974, Edgar Wright is an English film director, screenwriter and producer. He is popularly known for his fast and satirical movies like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz & translation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s ‘Scott Pilgrim’. Also, his movies are known to be featuring expressive popular music.
His eye for capturing details beautifully is what makes him one of the best directors of this generation.
Christopher Nolan
A director that tells stories that make a home in people’s minds for years to come. How? Because he doesn’t tell ordinary stories. He dreams and talks about a world that hardly exists in reality, and that’s what draws most of us towards his films.
Movies like Memento, Inception & Interstellar have proved his ability to create complex structures and manifest them into a reality on the big screens successfully.
Nolan started his career at the age of 7 by beginning to make short movies with his father’s Super-8 camera. Since then, his talent for making intriguing stories and keeping his audience hooked has only been nurtured well and made him one of the greatest directors.
Peter Jackson
Known for his wildly popular directorial ‘The Lord of the Rings’, Peter Jackson is the master of creating one of the best visually appealing movies of all time.
Born in a small coast-side town in New Zealand, he is a film director, producer as well as a screenwriter who is the third highest-grossing film director of all time whose films have clocked $6.5 billion worldwide.
Other than the phenomenal LOTR, his other notable directorial films include King Kong, The Lovely Bones, The Hobbit Trilogies and many such blockbuster films.
Chris Columbus
A director best known for his direction of the movie ‘Home Alone’ & ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’.
Chris Columbus was born in Pennsylvania and made his first movie after getting inspired by ‘The Godfather’ at the age of 15.
He saw massive success when he stepped into transforming J.K.Rowling’s world-famous novels, ‘Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone’ & its sequel – ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’ into breathtaking movies which took all Potterheads by storm. To date, he remains one of Hollywood’s most commercially successful directors and most importantly — the director who knows how to tickle the funny bones of his audience.
Yash Chopra
Establishing the biggest film studio in the Hindi Film Industry, Yash Chopra has many super-duper hit films, 6 national film awards, 8 Filmfare awards & a ‘Padma Bhushan’ to his name.
Not just known for making films but also for making ‘stars’, he is the pioneer of shaping mainstream Hindi Cinema across the globe.
He made romantic films in ways no one else could. This ‘King of Romance’ rewrote the definition of onscreen Drama & Romance in his glorious career of 50+ long years!
Rajkumar Hirani
A director that’s famous for delivering films that break all records of the Hindi Film Industry!
Being the director of ‘Quality’ over ‘Quantity’, Rajkumar Hirani has directed just 5 Hindi films, but all of them have set such a strong benchmark and, most importantly, an impact on the audience that there’s hardly a movie buff who is not intrigued by his films.
They call him the ‘Christopher Nolan’ of Bollywood for his ability to create the cinema and write stories that nobody thought could exist.
His power is his ability to make his audience smile and cry at the same time and make the ‘story’ the hero of the film.
Imtiaz Ali
He writes the scripts of every film he directs! His movies are truly the ‘feel good’ ones that take you on the journey of discovering Love and Life.
Born in 1971 in Jamshedpur, he started his career writing and directing Television shows.
His stories always promote travel, self-discovery through his subtle yet beautiful way of presenting the characters. There’s one thing that an ‘Imtiaz Ali film’ guarantees, and that’s ‘leaving his audience wanting more and better from their lives’.
